Can you feel it? Can you smell it? Can you hear it? Whether you come to enjoy the sounds of the falls, the smell of the apple cider, or stroll along the streets of Ohiopyle to observe the autumn leaves, we’re glad you’re here.
Ohiopyle State Park is a state park on 20,500 acres in Dunbar, Henry Clay and Stewart Townships in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. The State Park offers swimming, kayaking, biking, and picnicking. Within the Ohiopyle State Park sits a volunteer fire department, consisting of 20 volunteers, that are available to its community members along with the 1.3 million tourists that travel here every year.
As with many small communities, Ohiopyle-Stewart has traditions and knowledge that should be treasured. To honor those traditions, you’ll often find families that travel from other states to hold family reunions while supporting their hometown volunteer fire department. The Ohiopyle-Stewart Buckwheat Festival dates back 75 years ago when it started with a simple buckwheat dinner presented by the Ohiopyle Grange. For those that do not know, a buckwheat cake is a pancake made of buckwheat flour and is naturally gluten free. The buckwheat is a shade of gray, are denser and a little chewier than a traditional flour pancake. Only our batter chef knows the unique recipe which gives the buckwheat cake its sourdough flavor.
In addition, we will offer the following:
- Homemade baked goods freshly made by our community volunteers
- Fresh Apple Cider with an on-site press so you can watch the apple cider process
- Store with locally made maple syrup and a variety of maple sugar-coated nuts
- Buckwheat and fire department t-shirts/sweatshirts for purchase
- Raffle tickets with over 25 items
- Numerous community vendors and craft booths
- Music to make you dance
Your purchases and donations made during the festival provide Ohiopyle-Stewart Volunteer Fire Department its yearly funding giving them the ability to keep our community safe
